Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Using external monitor via hdmi output. Internal display dead. When turning on computer display is not always detected. Have to hard shutdown then try again. How do you make hdmi output default. People say right click on screen and choose display settings then click your monitor. Doing this on my windows 10 home notebook there is no monitor shown. Right clicking volume in taskbar there is no hdmi shown. Need help from somebody that knows and has used a computer. Not the thousands of idiots that know computers and have never seen or used one.

Hi@roykj,

Thanks for engaging in the HP support community! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips!

Try these steps -

Search for and open Display settings. You can also right-click the desktop and open Display settings. Scroll down and click Advanced display settings. In the Display adapter properties, click Display adapter properties.

Click on the Monitor tab to adjust the Screen Refresh Rate from the drop-down menu.

If the issue still persists, try re-installing the driver -

1) In the search box on the taskbar, type Device Manager, and then select Device Manager from the list of results.

2) In Device Manager, expand Display Adapter.

3) Right-click on the Display Adapter, and then select Uninstall device > Delete the driver software for this device check box > Uninstall.

4) Restart the computer.

Also, try updating the computer using these steps -

Step 1 Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Step 2 HP Support Assistant Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

I understand you want to know if there is a screen calibration that can make your screen look better than the other monitor's you have,

I'll be glad to help you out, however, for an accurate solution I will need more details:

What is the product number of your product? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824

When was the last time it worked without these issues? Have you attempted a system restore?

About the other 3 computers, are they similar models or different ones?

In the meantime, please try the steps mentioned on this link: Click here

Please reply with the details for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

Wow you didn't even read my post. One laptop one monitor no laptop screen. Just like most people this is a computer not a calculator. Your settings don't show up at all. I will just buy the laptop screen and take all of five minutes to replace it. The settings you mention are for a internal and external display 2 of them. My laptop has external only. Internal melted.

HI@roykj.

It looks like hardware issue

I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Remove the battery out. If the battery is integrated and does not have a latch to release it then leave the battery inside the laptop.
  • Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter.

F6 + Power Button

  • CMOS Rest ( combination of windows button and letter 'V' then push the power button ones and release the windows and letter 'V' after 5sec

If the laptop does not power on then please continue with the below steps:

  • Disconnect the charger and remove the battery out.
  • Connect only the battery and check if the laptop powers on.
  • Likewise, remove the battery out (if removal battery ) and connect only the charger and check if that helps.

None of those. You have to go to Intel Graphics Command Center not settings. Then delete extra duplicate monitor. Everything okay.
