Laptop 17 cnOxxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an older VGA monitor that I would like to connect to my laptop.  However, the laptop does not have a VGA port.  So I purchased a USBC hub.  However, once everything is attached, the laptop will not recognize the monitor.  The manufacturer of the hub (Hiearcool) is telling me that the USBC port on the laptop will not support video.  I wasn't aware that this could be an issue.  Is there anything to this?  If so, is there a way to connect my VGA monitor to my laptop?

What is your Laptop 17 cnOxxx  machine ( zero, not letter O) ? For example

           HP Laptop 17-cn0013dx

Your machine should have same ports as the above machine. It only has 1 SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 5Gbps signaling rate port which does NOT support Alt mode nor Power Delivery. You can NOT use it to

  • Charge your machine
  • Connect to an external monitor with / without hub/dock/adapter

Regards.

I have a hub adaptor, but it still doesn’t work. The manufacturer of the hub is telling me it is the wrong type of UDBC port. I wasn’t aware there was a difference.

From what I have read it seems that I need a USBC 3.1 or better. Is this true?  Does this device have that type of USBC?
