Hi @Mot38,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the number keys on your HP Pavilion - 15 laptop keyboard and keypad are not working, there are a few possible solutions you can try.
- Check Num Lock: Make sure the Num Lock key is turned on. Press the Num Lock key on your keyboard to toggle it on or off. When it's on, the number keys on the keypad should work.
- Check keyboard layout: Ensure that you are using the correct keyboard layout. Sometimes, the keyboard layout can be changed accidentally, leading to number keys not working as expected. You can check the keyboard layout settings in the operating system and switch it back to the appropriate layout if necessary.
- Restart your laptop: A simple restart can often resolve temporary software issues. Restart your laptop and check if the number keys start working again.
- Update drivers: Outdated or incompatible drivers can cause issues with keyboard functionality. Go to the HP support website (support.hp.com), enter your laptop model details, and download the latest drivers for your keyboard or chipset. Install the updated drivers and see if it resolves the problem.
- Run a keyboard troubleshooter: Most operating systems have built-in troubleshooters that can help identify and fix keyboard-related issues. Search for "Keyboard Troubleshooter" in your operating system's settings or control panel, and follow the instructions to run it.
- Check for physical damage: Inspect the keyboard for any physical damage or debris that may be causing the keys to malfunction. Clean the keyboard using compressed air or a soft brush to remove any dirt or dust particles that may be interfering with key operation.
- External keyboard test: Connect an external USB keyboard to your laptop and check if the number keys work on the external keyboard. If they do, it suggests that the issue may be with the internal keyboard, and you might need to replace it.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
