OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-wd000 (7B9S0AV)

Hello
I just bought HP Omen without OS, and tried to install it on my own. I have my own Win10 flashdisk with OS and tried to install the system from that.
Sadly Boot Menu does not work at all. Clicking that just switches back to FeeDOS.
Also after pressing F9 Boot Settings does not see flashdisk. What's going on?

Hi @Khossmack1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing issues with booting from your Windows 10 flash drive on your HP Omen laptop, there could be several reasons for this problem. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow.

  • Check USB Port: Ensure that you are plugging the USB flash drive into a working USB port on your HP Omen laptop. Try using a different USB port if the current one is not working.
  • Create a Bootable USB Drive: Confirm that the Windows 10 flash drive is correctly created and is bootable. You can use tools like Rufus or the Windows Media Creation Tool to create a bootable USB drive.
  • BIOS/UEFI Settings: Access the BIOS or UEFI settings of your HP Omen laptop by pressing the appropriate key during the startup process (usually F10 or ESC). Once in the BIOS/UEFI, check the following settings:
  • Boot Order/Sequence: Ensure that the USB drive is set as the first boot option. This is crucial for the system to recognize and boot from the USB drive.
  • Secure Boot: If your laptop has Secure Boot enabled, you might need to disable it temporarily to allow booting from external media. After Windows is installed, you can re-enable Secure Boot if desired.
  • Legacy/UEFI Mode: Check whether your laptop is set to boot in Legacy or UEFI mode. The Windows installation media and the laptop's BIOS/UEFI settings should be compatible. It's generally recommended to use UEFI mode for modern systems.
  • USB Drive Format: Ensure that the USB drive is formatted correctly. It should be formatted as FAT32 for UEFI boot. Some older systems may require the USB drive to be formatted as NTFS if booting in Legacy mode.
  • Update BIOS/UEFI: Check if there are any BIOS/UEFI updates available for your HP Omen laptop on the official HP support website. Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve compatibility issues.
  • Try Another USB Drive: If possible, try using another USB drive to see if the issue persists. The problem might be with the USB drive itself.
  • Test the USB Drive on Another Computer: Verify that the Windows 10 flash drive is functional by testing it on another computer. If it works on another system, the issue may be specific to your HP Omen laptop.

By systematically checking these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the issue preventing your HP Omen laptop from booting from the Windows 10 flash drive.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
