Omen 17-an107na stuck in a loop, cannot install synaptics driver.

I just got this laptop and the first thing I do is disable the touch-click on the trackpad.  Worse still, the omen has scroll reversed on it.  My Envy 13 had this but I managed to google and find a way to deactivate the reverse scroll so I thought there would be a solution to this problem.  Anyway, when I googled the solution and went through the synpatics trackpad options, there was no such option on the Omen 17 and no way for me to do this through Windows 10 which has many of the trackpad options disabled because of the specialist synaptics software.  Anyway I searched the net and found others had the same problem and they suggested installing an older driver.  So, I uninstalled the synaptics software and then when I came to install it all my problems started.  I had to use the HP Support Asistant and that downloads and 'installs' it but when it gets to the end it tells me there is a newer driver installed.  So, I am caught in a loop.  I have absolutely no trackpad software and I am stuck with touch-click and reverse scrolling.  I have done three reinstalls of windows 10 today and each time when I come to the reinstall the synaptics driver I get the same problem.  Either I am told there is a newer driver or it apparently installs but does not complete and there is no software at all on my device.  I can't uninstall the driver because it does not show in add or remove programmes.  What can I do?  I really liked this machine until I discovered I was stuck with inverted scrolling and had this problem.  Why can't they just build the options into windows?  All I want to do is remove the inverted scrolling and touch click and have a basic trackpad.  The simpler the better.  I hate the unipad on my envy 13 it is unreliable and imprecise.  I bought the ency for the two-buttons on the trackpad but now I have other problems.

I reviewed your post and I understand that you want to disable the touchpad on your computer.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

Windows 10 can disable your touchpad automatically when connecting a mouse.

Here is how it is done.

1. Open Settings.
2. Click on Devices.
3. Click on Touchpad.
4. Under "Touchpad," clear the Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected option.

No, the problem was that I could not turn off the "inverse scrolling" function which was very difficult to find.  Instead of the "inverse scrolling" being under "scrolling" in the synaptics driver interface it was under "two-finger scrolling" but it was invisible.  This is a stupid design because unless you put the icon over the "two-finger scrolling" you are unaware there is a little cog that becomes visible so you are unaware there is a range of options under that heading.  "Two-finger scrolling" is the only gesture I leave enabled that is important to me and so I left that one, thereby not being aware that the option to de-select "inverse scrolling" was under that.  I then could not de-select the reverse scrolling and I read online that I needed to use a legacy driver to get that option so I set about removing the driver and then I had all kinds of problems because I could not get any new driver to go on because the HP install software glitched up.  I became stuck in a loop where every time I tried to install a driver the laptop told me that I already had a driver installed, when I did not, and, even though there was no option in the "Add/Remove" programmes menu I could not get it to reinstall the driver so I could not interface with the trackpad in any way.  I got around this by going through device manager and uninstalling the windows driver so that I could then install a driver.

  I think HP need to revise the trackpad interface it is hopelessly complicated.  Some options do not show unless you know they are there.  They remain invisible unless you select that and the organisation is not logical.  Why is "inverse scrolling" not under "scrolling" and, instead, is under "two-finger scrolling"?

  It is a pity because it is a nice machine and yet I had to go through six clean installs to sort this out.  I had a lot of problems with the HP installation software.
