For the Omen 15-dc1054nr laptop, it always uses the dedicated Nvidia graphics card.
How to configure to use the less power hungry Intel integrated GPU when on battery?

@starman2 Welcome to HP Community!
The dedicated/discrete GPU is system managed and cannot be changed or set as default manually, there are a few tweaks that could be made using the steps in this link: click here to explore, that said, if you've confirmed that one of the two GPU's isn't working, you may want to perform a hardware test to identify hardware malfunction and we could work on repairing or replacing the GPU that no longer works.

The link you provided is specific for ATI dedicated graphics cards and the tools it mentions are AMD tools.
The information there does not pertain to my hardware.
I have an Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti card, not an ATI/AMD card.

That link for the Nvidia control panel does not match what I have for options on my Nvidia control panel.
Specifically, the drop down for the "Preferred graphics processor" does not exist as there is nothing between the "I would like to use the following 3D settings:" and the "Global Settings" tab.
Does the control panel you show not match what should show for the Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti or is this for an older Windows version?

Yes, you are correct this is the older windows version, Please ignore the previous post steps.
Please perform the extensive system test to make sure that the graphics card is having an issue.

Under the component tests, I ran all the CPU and Video tests but there were only 2 each for the CPU and Video tests:
1. For CPU: "Fast CPU Stress Test" and a "CPU Stress Test"
2. For Video: a "Video Memory Fast Test" and a "Video Palette Test"
These 4 tests all passed.
There was no component test specifically for the Intel CPU's embedded GPU.
Actually, that may not test the embedded Intel GPU since it does not show anywhere in the Device Manager or the Task Manager-Performance. Only the Nvidia GPU is shown in both. It seems like the system doesn't know about the Intel embedded GPU. Why is that?

1. Device Manager and Task Manager do not show Intel embedded GPU, and only Nvidia GPU shown in both.
Hardware Device Manager andTask Manager do not show embedded GPU.
2. Nvidia GPU properties show driver details and say the driver is up top date.
Nvidia driver for GeForce GTX 1660 Ti is up to date.

In that case, I would suggest you perform the cloud recovery. Please refer to the following link to perform the cloud recovery.
Note: Before performing the recovery, please take the backup of your personal data.

I am not going to wipe out my current installation until I get an assurance that I will have the Intel embedded GPU in my device manager and task manager. If HP has disabled this in the bios or by a cpu switch this is a huge waste of my time to do this and have to reinstall everything. I would like to talk to someone in Level 2 support before doing this to see what this laptop is supposed to have in device manager.

Here is how you can get in touch with phone support.
1)Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/
2)Select the product type.
3)Enter the serial number of your device or select let HP detect your product option.
4)Select the country from the drop-down.
5)You should see the HP phone support number or Chat option listed.
