Hi, this used to happen on my old HP laptop where you try and pull the scroll bar down the page as you read the pages but sometimes the bar will simply not move? Is there a fix for this by any chance?

Hi @Jged,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the side scroll bars on your HP laptop are sticking and won't pull down, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem.
Restart Your Laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can clear out temporary glitches and resolve minor issues. Try restarting your HP laptop and see if the scroll bars work properly afterward.
Check for Updates: Make sure your operating system and drivers are up to date. Outdated software or drivers can sometimes cause issues with scrolling. Visit the HP website and download the latest drivers for your touchpad or mouse.
Clean Your Touchpad or Mouse: Dust, dirt, and debris on your touchpad or external mouse can hinder its functionality. Use a soft cloth or cleaning solution designed for electronics to gently clean the touchpad or mouse surface.
Adjust Touchpad Settings:
- Sensitivity: You can adjust the sensitivity of your touchpad in the settings. Lower sensitivity might help if it's too sensitive.
- Scrolling: Check the touchpad settings for scrolling options. Make sure scrolling is enabled, and adjust the scrolling speed if needed.
Disable Palm Check: Some touchpad drivers have a feature called "palm check" that prevents accidental touches while typing. This feature can sometimes interfere with scrolling. You can disable it in the touchpad settings.
Update or Reinstall Touchpad Drivers:
- Go to "Device Manager" by right-clicking on the Start button and selecting it.
- Expand the "Mice and other pointing devices" section.
- Right-click on your touchpad driver and select "Update driver" or "Uninstall device" if the update option doesn't work. After uninstalling, restart your laptop, and Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
Run a Hardware Diagnostics Test: HP laptops often come with built-in hardware diagnostics tools. You can access these tools during startup by pressing a specific key (usually F2, F10, or F12) as instructed on the HP logo screen. Run a test on your touchpad or mouse to check for hardware issues.
External Mouse: If you are using an external mouse, try a different mouse to see if the issue persists. If the issue is specific to one mouse, it might be a hardware problem with that mouse.
Check for Physical Damage: Inspect your touchpad and its surrounding area for physical damage. If you find any damage, it could be the source of the problem.
System Restore: If the issue started recently and none of the above steps help, you can try using System Restore to restore your laptop to a point in time when the scroll bars were working correctly.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
