Pavilion 15-ab115ur Video Card Error 43 in Device Manager
12-02-2021 02:02 PM - edited 12-02-2021 02:03 PM

I have a Pavilion 15-ab115ur and Windows 10 21H2 64-bit (with latest updates). Latest driver from HP does not work. When installing driver 21.5.2 from AMD, video cards are disabled in Device Manager with error 43. I enable Legacy Mode in the BIOS and now on every turn on I got a blue screen (DRIVER IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL), the laptop reboots, the system boots and the video cards works. How do I get the video driver to work?

I enabled Legacy Mode in BIOS, installed Adrenalin 2020 Edition 21.3.1 Recommended (WHQL) and enabled hybrid sleep mode in power plan settings. Now power on and sleep mode work fine. Still error 43 in Secure Boot.

Hi@eXtreme4, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for engaging in the HP support community! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand that you need assistance with the display error message. I’ll be glad to assist you with this.
The only option is to reimage the operating system to factory settings.
- Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
- Click Advanced system settings.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- In the Startup and Recovery section, click Settings.
- Click to clear the Automatically restart check box.
If you've been using the Recovery Partition (F11) to reinstall the OS, I recommend using the Recovery media instead to wipe out the HDD and create a new partition and fresh OS installation: Click here to obtain one, if you don't have on in your possession.
or HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool (Windows 10) Link
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

I have reinstalled the operating system on an empty hard drive several times and tried different driver versions. For clean installation, I used a USB installation media created via Windows 10 Media Creation Tool. The HP driver is very old and doesn't work at all. I could not get any AMD driver to work in Secure Boot mode. Graphics cards are disabled in Device Manager with error 43. I've been trying to find a solution for over a year now. Microsoft and AMD send me to a laptop manufacturer.
On Microsoft Q&A I found the following "If you are using an HP computer, then that may be contributing to your issue. HP requires default microsoft signing to be enabled in BIOS for video cards to function. Try navigating to the SecureBoot section in your BIOS, and select "Enable MS UEFI CA Key"." But there is no such option in the BIOS F.54 Rev.A.

Hi@eXtreme4,
`We have done the basic troubleshooting as per the document and the notebook needs to be checked taking remote access so that get to know it's a hardware or software issue.
I'd suggest you contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your computer or HP Chat Support Team.

Today I saw on the HP website a new assembly of drivers for graphics from 06/09/2021, which are based on the 16.300.2701.0 driver from 08/09/2016. This driver assembly works with Secure Boot.

Hi@eXtreme4,
We have done the basic troubleshooting as per the document and the notebook needs to check to get to know its hardware is faulty, not a software issue.
I'd suggest you contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your computer or HP Chat Support Team.
