Hello dear Forum;
I'd appreciate your valuable guidance. After installing Windows 10 my laptop does not connect to TV via HDMI cable. It does via VGA only using an adaptor. I've checked in HP Assistant and Windows Device Manager for display drivers update and both have confirmed I have the current ones.
Any ideas? Thanks a lot;
Gus

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.
I understand that you have an HP Pavilion dv6-6b02tx Entertainment Notebook PC (product# A3E14PA) and post upgrading to Windows 10, the TV does not work via the HDMI connection. I read that the VGA connection works fine. The HP support assistant and the device manager show that the drivers are up to date. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.
To provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
- Is that the correct laptop model no? Because this laptop does not have an HDMI port. Please refer to the product specifications.
- Please let me know the exact product model no. This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l
Meanwhile, I will still provide you the steps to fix the HDMI connection. I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:
-
Locate the HDMI port on the rear of your TV. There should be more than one, so choose one that is otherwise unused. Note which port you choose.
-
Connect one end of the HDMI cable to port on the TV.
-
Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI port on your computer.
-
Using your TV remote, select the HDMI input corresponding to the port where you connected the cable.
-
Press the power button to start the computer and allow it to boot into Windows.
Your Windows Desktop should appear on your TV. If not, press and hold the fn key, and then press the f4 key to switch the display from your computer display to the TV.
-
Using your computer keyboard or other control device, play a movie or online video.
-
Check your picture and sound quality. If the audio does not start playing automatically, the playback Sound settings need to be configured to switch from the PC speakers to the TV speakers when the HDMI cable is connected.
-
Click Start, type sound, and select Sound from the resulting list.
-
Click the Playback tab and select the desired speakers from the resulting list.
Figure : Sound
-
This should allow you to enjoy high-definition video such a Blu-Ray, if your computer has a Blu-Ray disk, on your HDTV. Verify the media playback program such as WinDVD, MediaSmart, or PowerDVD is available to assist in playing your DVDs.
If the issue still persists then I suggest you to perform the steps as described in detail from this link.
I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Keep me posted. Cheers! 🙂

I have found a solution that automatically detects a monitor in my DV6 HP computer with a Radeon 5000 series Graphics. All you have to do is download the ADM Crimson Beta software. YOU MUST UNINSTALL THE catalyst one that comes with Windows.
As soon as I got rid of the Catalyst AMD software for setting up and placed the Crimson ADM software, it AUTOMATICALLY detected my Monitor (Hannspree brand)
Download here: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-17-11-4
There was no need to update anything, change any settings on sound or anything at all. Seems the trick is just a software thing.
Hope this helps.
