My HP Spectre has had issues freezing when I use it for an extended period of time since I purchased it. My most recent problem is when streaming Netflix it will freeze multiple times while watching a single episode of a series. I have to shut it down and open it back up every time. Any suggestions.

Hi @jehues,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing freezing issues with your HP Spectre laptop. Freezing problems can be caused by various factors, including software issues, hardware problems, or a combination of both. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the freezing problem.
- Update your drivers: Outdated or incompatible drivers can cause freezing issues. Visit the official HP website and download the latest drivers for your Spectre model, particularly for the graphics card and chipset.
- Check for software conflicts: Third-party software can sometimes conflict with system processes and cause freezing. Try booting your laptop in safe mode and see if the freezing issue persists. If the problem disappears in safe mode, it's likely caused by a third-party program. You can then uninstall recently installed applications or use a process of elimination to identify the problematic software.
- Scan for malware: Malware infections can lead to system instability and freezing problems. Run a thorough scan with a reputable antivirus or antimalware program to check for any potential threats.
- Perform a disk cleanup: Insufficient disk space or a cluttered hard drive can affect system performance. Use the built-in Disk Cleanup utility to remove unnecessary files and free up disk space. You can access it by searching for "Disk Cleanup" in the Start menu.
- Check for overheating: Overheating can cause a computer to freeze. Ensure that the laptop's vents and fans are clean and not blocked by dust or debris. Consider using a cooling pad to help with temperature regulation.
- Update your operating system: Keeping your operating system up to date can resolve known issues and improve overall stability. Check for any available updates and install them.
- Perform a system restore: If the freezing issue started recently, you can try using System Restore to revert your laptop to a previous state when it was functioning correctly. Search for "System Restore" in the Start menu to access this feature.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
