Pavilion 15-cs2004no

I just bought a brand new HP Pavilion notebook and to my dissappointment the camera is really bad. The image is blurry and my face is all pale and I look sick. In some lightsettings the image goes all black, there seems to be no sofisticated functions to adjust the image depending on light conditions and other options. I haven't found a way to adjust the colours, only the brightness which didn't do the trick. Since I will be using the camera a lot for work, the poor quality really doesn't do it for me. I've tried some recommendations to upgrade it on this supportpage, and restarted the computer, but it's still as bad. Is there a way to fix this without being an IT-proffessional? if not, then it has to go back and I will have to look for a new computer that better fits my requirements.

Hi! @Fraula,

Do you see the webcam drivers listed in the device manager?

Try updating the BIOS and IR camera drivers to the latest version and check if it helps.

Update the BIOS using this link. Click Here

Update the IR camera driver using this link. Click Here

Also, Try the steps recommended below and check if it helps.

In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
Double-click Imaging Devices to expand the list of webcam drivers.
If there is no Imaging devices category listed in Device Manager, stop using these steps and see the section Webcam is not listed in Device Manager in this document.
If more than one webcam driver is listed, right-click the driver and select uninstall for any driver that is not the HP Webcam-101 or Microsoft USB Video Device driver. Once the other drivers have been removed, restart your computer and open your software. If problems persist, continue using these steps.
Right-click the name of the webcam in the Images Devices category (HP Webcam-101 or Microsoft USB Video Device), and select Update Driver Software.
Click Browse the computer to select a specific USB Video Device driver.
Double-click Imaging Devices to expand the list of webcam drivers, right-click the webcam driver, and then select Properties.
Make a note of the existing name of the webcam driver (Example: HP Webcam), as it might change after the update.
On the Webcam Properties window, select Update Driver.
Select to Browse the computer for the desired driver.
Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
Remove the selection from Show compatible hardware.
Select Microsoft in the Manufacturer field, and select USB Video Device in the Model field.
Click Next to install the webcam driver.
Allow the installation of the USB Video Device, and then click Close.
After the device has been updated to USB Video Device in Device Manager, restart your computer and open your software.
If problems persist, install the latest BIOS update from HP and get all the latest Windows updates from Microsoft.

Also, try the steps recommended below.

To clean the HP webcam lens, use a soft, non-abrasive cloth, such as a micro fiber screen dusting cloth. You can find a suitable screen-dusting cloth at a computer store. Gently rub the webcam lens with the cloth.

The webcam video quality can be affected by a number of external factors. Consider each of the following variables, and adjust as needed.

  • Move the notebook to a convenient viewing position. Because your HP webcam is built into the display lid of the notebook, you can adjust the angle of the video feed. Likewise, you can move the notebook closer or further from the subject for a pleasant-looking image.

  • Clean the lens of the webcam. Use a soft, lint-free cloth (not a tissue or any other paper cloth) and a mild cleaner, such as one used for eyeglasses, to clean the webcam lens. The webcam lens is built into the lid of the notebook.

  • Adjust lighting. You may need to increase or decrease the amount of lighting in the room, or move the light source closer to or further from the subject. If the light is too close or too bright, the image may have an unpleasant glare or shadows. Avoid lighting that shines on the webcam, or strong lighting from behind the subject. Also, avoid fluorescent lights whenever possible because they can contribute to graininess and alter the color of the video.

  • Move slowly on camera. Webcams are not designed to capture high-speed motions. Moving too quickly on camera can result in blurred footage.

  • Minimize external noises. If possible, capture the video footage in a quiet room with the door closed, and with a minimum amount of background noise from machinery. HP notebooks with webcams have integrated microphones that are not designed to filter out excess background noise. If the integrated microphone is not sufficient for your needs, you can plug in an external microphone into the microphone jack on the computer.

  • Indoor or Outdoor Use. The webcam is designed for indoor use where the light values are more consistent or can be controlled. When the webcam is used outdoors, the light may become very bright or there may be dramatic differences between light and dark areas of the image. The exposure time for an individual image may become very short, producing blurred or poor resolution images. This behavior is more noticeable on certain notebook models when the camera is designed to adapt to low-light conditions.
