Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Since my latest Windows update, my touchpad has been enabled. I hate that. I use an external mouse (wireless usb). Previously, I disabled the touchpad, but I cannot figure out how to do it again. The instructions I find on the web (and on HP) is to open the Mouse Settings / Additional Mouse Options. However the dialog box is different from that shown. There is no 'Touchpad' tab and I see no option to "Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached."

You could try instead to switch off the touchpad (when mouse is connected)

Settings > Devices > Touchpad

Select your preferred settings:

Touchpad > Adjust slider bar to ON or OFF

UNCHECK "Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected"

Example Windows 10 Pro - V1903

Unfortunately my Settings dialog box does not have that option.

If you have not done so, consider checking / updating your TouchPad Driver software for the version of Windows 10 you are running.

As a general rule, HP Software and Drivers should be kept updated - this is in addition to any Windows Updates.

Using the HP Support Assistant to update your software?

Reminder - At this writing, best not use the HP Support Assistant to update the BIOS

Set HPSA > Settings to notify you (as opposed to "automatic updates" setting)

Open the software > Check for Updates

If the BIOS is included in your Update list, exclude this update and plan on downloading and installing the update manually after other updates are completed.

How to install BIOS Updates:

HP Notebook PCs - Updating the BIOS (Basic Input Output System)

HP Desktop PCs - Updating the BIOS (Basic Input Output System)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You may manually update your Software and Drivers for your computer.

For example,

Software and drivers for HP 15-bs100 Laptop PC

Open Category Driver-Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices (9)

Synaptics TouchPad Driver (Windows 10 v1903)

I have updated the TouchPad driver software; I have downloaded and installed all recommended HP updates via the HP Support Assistant; I have manually updated the BIOS as you instructed.

But, sadly, the problem persists. I'm not sure why the Touchpad Settings dialog no longer has the option to turn off the touchpad while a USB mouse is used. Is it a Windows thing or a driver issue?

I even tried uninstalling the touchpad driver, but it doesn't work. The computer seems to uninstall it, yet the touchpad keeps on ticking ...

Well, I don't know.  Rats.

Perhaps another Expert has seen this issue and can add something useful.

If it is available, most touchpads (if the option is enabled) can be shut off during the current session with a (firm) double-tap in the upper left corner of the touchpad.
