I received a pop-up asking if I wanted to try a feature to increase focus/attention. The setting dims a screen when not in use. I tried it, but I'm realizing I don't like it as it makes it difficult to use 2 screens at the same time. Once keeps dimming. I can't find that setting anywhere now to reverse my selection. The common solutions I see are ambient light sensor, or CABC. Going thru the settings I don't think it's either of these, as the dimming of my laptop screen is triggered by my clicking on anything in my ext monitor.
Anyone know how to turn this off?

Hi @jb13025, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding dimming screen!
Let’s help you get that dimming under control so you can juggle both screens without distractions.
You can follow the below steps:
-
Turn off Windows Focus Assist:
- Go to Settings > System > Focus Assist and set it to Off to ensure no interference with screen behavior.
-
Check Battery Settings:
- Go to Settings > System > Power & Battery.
- Under Screen and Sleep, check if any settings related to screen dimming are enabled when plugged in or on battery.
-
Adjust the CABC (Content Adaptive Brightness Control):
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Display Adapters, right-click your graphics card, and select Properties.
- Under the Driver tab, check if there is an option to disable CABC.
Let me know how it goes, If the issue persists, let's try reinstalling the graphics driver or update it from HP's support site.
if you need help in doing so, feel free to reach out.
Hang tight, we’ll get your display back to full brightness! 🌟
Hope I was able to make things easier for you! 😊

Hi Kuroi_Kenshi
thanks for the reply. I tried your suggestions.
System Settings - I only have Focus, not focus assist. Looks like it's not active unless I choose to start a focus session. Which I have not. I also don't see a screen dim feature there.
Battery settings - all good there.
CABC - I don't see this as an option where indicated.
I tried reinstalling the graphics driver but that process is getting an error.
