My USB-C will not allow a monitor to connect to my laptop via the docking station. The HDMI port supports one. Can I use a USB-a to run the other, and if so what kind of USB-A are compatible with this notebook? I have two monitors plus laptop screen that I am trying to connect.

The specs of your machine is

          https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06502604

It ONLY has 1 USB 3.1 Type-C™ Gen 1 (Data Transfer up to 5 Gb/s) port which does NOT support Alt mode nor Power Delivery. You can NOT use it to

  • Charge your machine
  • Connect to an external monitor with/without hub/dock/adapter

If you wish to connect 2 external monitors, you can use

M1: HDMI direct cable

M2: Using a Displaylink Certified USB-A to HDMI adapter such as

                https://www.amazon.com.au/CableCreation-Adapter-Windows-Compatible-2560x1440/dp/B013G4CJM8

For more connectivity, please use

                                      True Universal Docking Stations

Regards.
