Hi @TChoufa,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

The issue with your HP Spectre X360 - 13-Ae014dx not detecting the external screen after a crash could be due to several reasons, including driver issues, hardware malfunctions, compatibility issues if OS is changed or upgraded, or configuration errors. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

1. Check the Physical Connections

  • Ensure that the cable connecting your laptop to the external monitor is securely connected at both ends.
  • Try using a different cable to rule out the possibility of a faulty cable.

2. Restart Both Devices

  • Restart your laptop and the external monitor to refresh their connections.

3. Detect the Display Manually

  • Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
  • Scroll down to the Multiple Displays section and click on Detect.

4. Update or Reinstall Graphics Drivers

Update Graphics Drivers:

  1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand the Display adapters section.
  3. Right-click on your graphics card (e.g., Intel UHD Graphics or NVIDIA) and select Update driver.
  4. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

Reinstall Graphics Drivers:

  1. In the Device Manager, right-click on your graphics card and select Uninstall device.
  2. Check the box for Delete the driver software for this device and click Uninstall.
  3. Restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the graphics driver. If it doesn't, you can download and install the latest drivers from the HP Support website or the graphics card manufacturer's website (Intel or NVIDIA).

5. Check Display Settings

  • Go to Settings > System > Display.
  • Ensure that the external monitor is set to the correct mode (e.g., Extend, Duplicate).

Kindly check the next set of steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi @TChoufa,

Here are the next set of steps below.

6. Run Windows Troubleshooter

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  • Select Additional troubleshooters.
  • Choose Hardware and Devices and run the troubleshooter.

7. BIOS/UEFI Settings

  • Ensure that the BIOS/UEFI settings are correctly configured to support external displays. You can access the BIOS/UEFI settings by pressing Esc or F10 during startup and navigating to the appropriate section.

8. Perform a System Restore

  • If the issue started after a recent update or installation, you can perform a system restore to revert your laptop to a previous state where the external monitor was working correctly.
    1. Press Windows + S and type System Restore.
    2. Select Create a restore point and then System Restore.
    3. Follow the on-screen instructions to restore your system to a previous restore point.

9. Check for Windows Updates

  • Ensure that your Windows 11 operating system is up to date. Sometimes updates include important fixes for hardware compatibility issues.
    1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
    2. Check for updates and install any available updates.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it may be a hardware problem, and you should consider contacting HP phone support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
