I have an HP notebook 15s-fq1006na
I am already hooked up to a Lenovo monitor as my 2nd screen - using the HDMI port.
I want to buy another screen and attach it with the USB C port - lots of portable monitors now offer this as an option (the USB C port both powers the screen and serves as the digital connection for data/video transfer).
Before I order the screen, can anyone tell me if the type of USB C port on this model of laptop will work in DP Alt mode?

The specs of your machine is
https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06530189
Short answer: No you can'r connect its USB-C port to a screen.
Long answer: It ONLY has 1 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C™ (Data Transfer Only, 5 Gb/s signaling rate) port which does NOT support Alt mode nor Power Delivery. You can NOT use it to
- Charge your machine,
- Connect to an external monitor with/without hub/dock/adapter
If you wish to connect 2 external monitors (only), you can use
Monitor 1: HDMI direct cable,
Monitor 2: Using a Displaylink Certified USB-A to HDMI adapter such as
