Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, from yesterday I have a strange behavior of the laptop if I activate CAPS Lock, if I do it and press the letter G the keyboard sends random keys.

I captured the keys pressed with keyboardtest v4.

if i press g the keyboard sends esc lwin p lwin f7 h

and as you can see now that i pressed the caps lock and then deactivated it i cannot use the shift to write in capitals, now i'm trying to write in capitals holding the shift key but it writes in lower case.

even with the vistual onscreen keyboard i can't use the shift key

the same problem appears in recovery mode

i think is something firmware based, as if i boot on linux from live distro, i get the same behaviour but if i put this string in the kernel parameters i get no problems i8042.dumbkbd=1

i tried uninstalling the driver in device management, reinstalling the touchpad driver.

any ideas?

Hi @gbtest85

Welcome to the HP Support Community. Thanks for bringing this to our notice.

I see that you are facing keyboard-related issues on your system. Do not worry, we are here to fix it.

  • May I know from when are you facing this issue?
  • Did you make any hardware or software-related changes to it?
  • May I know if your system has dual OS?
  • What happens when you use an external keyboard?

I would suggest you boot your system into safe mode and check if the issue persists. Here is a link that will help: https://support.hp.com/lt-en/document/ish_5000477-5000532-16

Along with that you can perform the troubleshooting steps shared in the link below and let me know your observations: https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c03738933

Hello, the telephone assistant helped me, we did the UEFI component test and found that is a hardware issue and the laptop will be sent for repair.

Just to answer you, no I don't have dual boot but I tried a live Linux, I didn't made any modifications and I don't have an external keyboard to try!

Thank you for your answer.
