Product: hp pavilion laptop 15-cc0xx
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
purchased a device that takes HDMI 1 input to connect 2 external monitors
the 2nd monitor is displayed but its a copy of 1st external Monitor
is this HP device unable to simply have 1 2 3
ie detect?

I don't see how that could work. The laptop only sends out one signal over one port, so Windows sees each port as ONE screen. A splitter connected to that port still only gets one video signal -- even if it replicates that signal to two cables.
