I opened my laptop to find a cracked screen. It's just the glass as the touchscreen works fine as I run my finger over it and seems to respond to light tapping. I have a two questions and I'm located in Austin, TX.

First my warranty expired one month ago, is there anything I can do to extend it retroactively???

Second, if I can't extend the warranty, what is the best way to replace just the glass. I'm not made of money, but I'm looking for the least expensive way to replace it with reasonable assurance it will turn out working (and looking) the same as it would straight from the factory.

Warranty does not generally cover a cracked screen so it would not do any good to retroactively extend the warranty even if you could. If you want to extend it for other reasons just google HP Carepacks and HP does sell extended warranties but you have to purchase within a specific time after expiration and you may or may not still be in that window.

HP does not sell just the glass and digitizer as a recognized replacement part. All they would sell you is the entire screen assembly and it would be spendy. Like over $400.

You can possibly find just the glass and digitizer on eBay or the screen assembly or screen panel with glass from entrepeneurial vendors. It appears your screen may be a single unit without a separate glass overlay

See pp. 15-16.

The whole assembly with plastic housing is $270 from a Chinese vendor on eBay:

This would be a relatively easy replacement job. Replacing just the glass can be a bit more difficult and is not something I recommend doing without prior experience.

You can get the touchscreen plus glass (no plastic housing) for $190:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Spectre-X360-13-AC023DX-13-3-FHD-Lcd-Touch-Screen-Assembly-918030-001/16...

This would be a little more difficult to do but not as hard as replacing just the glass. I could not find just the glass for this model. I am thinking the screen panel and glass are made together as a single piece. On models where you can find just the glass overlay and digitizer unit the cost is usually like $120.

Post back with any other questions and please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.

We ended up purchasing the touchscreen assembly (no plastic housing) that you linked to in the post. (When you mentioned plastic housing I thought you meant the laptop case or "shell".) We tried to remove and reuse the plastic housing from the original screen but it was damaged beyond reuse. Do you know how we might track down just the plastic housing? Or do I need to just buy the whole "top half" of the laptop at this point? HIndsight is 20/20 and I should've just lived with the cracked screen or taken it to a professional. Any suggestions welcome.

I did warn that the job can be difficult. We can find you any parts you need but won't know the price until we find them. Looking at the Manual please try to tell me by part number what you broke or even a picture would help.
