If we look at the pictures we can see that it is not actually the hinge which needs replaced. If we replace the hinge, there would be no difference, as there is no place to screw it into. So we need to recreate the screw holders. Naturally one could replace the top cover. If done on ones own, the cost will be about 100-150$, if taken to service centre I would guess aboute 250$.
I have also performed these fixes many times, not only on HP computers. The plastic where the hinges screw into seem to become brittle over time and break off. So the fix of using epoxy cement is cheap and can work well. It also always leaves the option open to replace the top cover.
Your welcome. Hope you can keep your laptop togrther until you replace it. Let me know if you need further help.
All the best,
David

You have to think about how it got this way. The hinges do not look bad but they are seizing up. It takes too much effort to move them so when you do they pull on the mounting structures. Yes, you have to replace all the damaged pieces but this is only going to recur if you do not address the root problem.

Hi David,
I really needed some help with a similar problem.
My laptop's model number is : 15r204TU.
I have broken the hinge and the hinge cover of the laptop.
I understand that the hinges for all 15R series should be same. Could you have a look at this hinge? - https://www.ebay.com/itm/Left-Right-Lcd-Hinge-Set-for-HP-15-G-15-R-Non-Touchscreen-Laptops/401153002...
My question is - I cannot find any hinge cover for 15R series for my laptop. Would some other series hinge cover work?
Maybe this - https://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-HP-Pavilion-15-BS-Series-Laptop-15-6-Hinge-Cover-Left-and-Right-Bla...
Could you please suggest a link and help me out.
Thanks!
