I have been using an HP Pavilion Gaming 15 laptop for four years. My Laptop : HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-dk1035ne (2F5E1EA) -
Product : 2F5E1EA
Serial Number : [personal info removed]
I have taken great care of the device, ensuring it has not been subjected to any shocks or vibrations. However, I am currently facing a problem with the screen.
Problem Details:
The screen exhibits flickering when using a 144 Hz refresh rate. It works normally at 60 Hz.
- Appearance:The flickering occurs irregularly, significantly affecting the user experience, especially during gaming or viewing.
Actions Taken:
1. Updated Graphics Driver: I ensured that the graphics driver is updated to the latest version.
2. Checked Display Settings:I verified the refresh rate settings in the operating system.
3. Tested External Monitor:I connected the laptop to an external monitor, and the flickering did not appear, indicating that the issue may be with the screen itself.
Request:
Since the device is out of warranty, I would like to know the available options for resolving this issue. Is there a possibility for a screen inspection or replacement? If there are any potential costs, I would like to be informed about them.
I appreciate your assistance in this matter and look forward to your response.
Thank you.

Hi @MMounir,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like the flickering issue at 144 Hz on your HP Pavilion Gaming 15 might be hardware-related, specifically with the screen itself. Since you've ruled out software issues by updating the graphics driver, checking display settings, and confirming that the issue doesn't occur with an external monitor, it narrows the problem down to the laptop's display panel or connection.
Here are a few more troubleshooting steps and potential solutions:
Adjust Power Settings
- NVIDIA Control Panel: Open the NVIDIA Control Panel, navigate to Manage 3D settings, and under the Power Management Mode, switch to Prefer Maximum Performance. Sometimes, power-saving settings can cause issues with high refresh rates.
- Windows Power Settings: Make sure you're using the High Performance or Ultimate Performance power plan. Go to Control Panel > Power Options > select High Performance.
Check Display Cable (Internal)
- The issue could be related to a loose or damaged internal display cable (LVDS/eDP cable). If comfortable, you could check the internal display cable's connection to the screen or motherboard (or have a technician do so). A loose connection might cause flickering at higher refresh rates.
BIOS Update
- Ensure your BIOS is up to date. Sometimes, updating the BIOS can resolve display-related issues, especially if the laptop's panel is experiencing specific issues at higher refresh rates. You can check HP's website for the latest BIOS version for your device.
Reinstall or Roll Back Graphics Driver
- Even though you've updated the driver, sometimes the latest version can cause issues. Try reinstalling the graphics driver or rolling back to a previous version if the flickering started after a recent driver update.
Refresh Rate Testing via Safe Mode
- Boot into Safe Mode to see if the flickering persists at 144 Hz. If not, there could still be a software conflict causing the issue in normal mode.
Hardware Diagnostics
- Run the built-in HP Hardware Diagnostics to test the display and GPU. Restart the laptop and press F2 during startup to access the diagnostics tool. This can help identify any underlying hardware problems.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
