HP Pavilion x360 - 15-dq1071cl
Microsoft Windows 11

I have an HP Pavilion x360 laptop. I recently purchased an S2 Triple Screen Extender. After hooking it up to my laptop, only one of the screens works, while the other one gives a "No Signal" error and goes into power saving mode. The side that doesn't work is always the Type-C to Type-C interface and not the HDMI one. It does this no matter which screen side I use. I tried to install it on my wife's laptop (same brand), and it does the same thing with hers. Interestingly enough, she bought a screen extender as well, but it only has one extra screen and not two. Her screen works fine with the HDMI, but not the Type-C hook up. Is there something about the HP laptops that doesn't allow them to use Type-C hook ups for screen extenders, or am I doing something wrong?

Hi @aqsartin,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Thanks for laying this out clearly. Here’s what’s happening with your HP Pavilion x360 15‑dq1071cl and the S2 Triple Screen Extender:

Your laptop’s USB‑C port is data‑only (for file transfer, charging, etc.), not DisplayPort Alt Mode.

Without DisplayPort Alt Mode, the USB‑C port cannot output video. That’s why the Type‑C to Type‑C connection always shows “No Signal.”

The HDMI port works because it’s designed for video output.

Your wife's extender has the same limitation: USB‑C without video output.

That’s why her single‑screen extender works fine over HDMI but not over Type‑C.

Use HDMI for video: Stick with HDMI for the extender.

Check if USB‑C supports DP Alt Mode: Look at the port markings or HP’s spec sheet. If no DP icon, it won’t output video.

Consider a docking station: Some docks convert HDMI to multiple outputs, but they still rely on the laptop’s single HDMI stream.

Upgrade to a laptop with Thunderbolt/USB‑C DP Alt Mode: If triple‑screen gaming is a priority, you’ll need a system with a dedicated GPU and USB‑C video output.

I hope this helps

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀
