I've tried digging around and couldn't find any soutions for this; my laptop is brand new (it isn't even a month old - I bought and set it up on, I want to say, August 13th). Every so often, I'll notice my display fade out slowly before returning to the set brightness I had it at. It will happen multiple times a day, and it happens wheter I'm on battery power or it's plugged in.

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I see from your post that you are having issues with the screen Brightness fading intermittently. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Did you make any software or hardware changes on your laptop?
Did this happen after a software or OS update?
Have you tried to check the power plan options? If you haven't tried it, click here: HP Notebook PCs - Managing Power Options (Windows 10)
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
Perform a Hard reset on the notebook:
Many startup errors and other problems can be resolved by decreasing the amount of power stored in hardware components. Decreasing stored power is sometimes referred to as a "Hard Reset". Use the following steps to perform a hard reset on a computer:
-
If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.
If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.
-
With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.
-
With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.
-
Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.
For now please try these steps:
Try these steps:
- Start -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Device Manager.
- In the Device Manager window, look for “Monitors”, then right-click your monitor and select “Uninstall”. Be sure to also check the “Remove driver” option. Once removed, click the “Scan for hardware changes” icon
- If it does not work, please uninstall the graphics driver software from device manager by following these steps:
- Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand display adapters>then select the display drivers that are listed and right-click on it and uninstall the drivers.
- Check the box that states delete the software for this device.
- Then restart the computer and update the bios chipset and graphics drivers from this link:https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers and check if it gets resolved.
Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.
Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.
Once done, restart the computer.
If it does not, then try the steps from this link: HP Products - Changing Display Settings, Background Image, Icons, and Screen Saver (Windows 10, 7)
Could you please respond to this post with the details and with the results of the troubleshooting as this will help me in further assisting you.
