HP 15-f039wm Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The issue I am having with my laptop is that whenever the charger is plugged in or out, the screen goes black/blank then comes back on. This is known to happen when a hdmi cable is plugged in, but is not supposed to happen when the charger is plugged in. I only started experiencing this problem since today and I am wonder if it is because i had started to display by screen on a tv via a hdmi cable. normally when i do this, i set the screen settings to second screen only, and when I am done, I revert to duplicate screen, then i remove the hdmi cable. I am worried that I have done something wrong. I already removed the battery and put it back in, but I am still experiencing the problem. Can someone please elp me out, thank you.

Hi there @teachaa

Thanks for participating in the HP Forums where we want to help you as well as others who may experience a similar issue as you have. Please consider marking the post that resolves your issue as "Accept as Solution" to help other community members!

I read your post on the HP Support Forums and I understand that when you plug or unplug the Notebook using the AC Power Adapter, the display turns black/blank for a couple of seconds and then comes back. Much like what happens when the screen readjusts after using HDMI.

There are a couple of reasons that this may be happening, but to better narrow down where the issue is stemming from, I would first suggest that we take a look at the power plans.

A power plan is a collection of hardware and system settings that manage how your computer uses power. You can use power plans to reduce the amount of power your computer uses, maximize performance, or balance the two. Much like when you are using HDMI, there are settings that tell the Notebook to perform a specific way when the AC Power Adapter is plugged in or when you take it.

Please first try to reset the power plan defaults and restart your Notebook.

If that does not work, you can try using the Power troubleshooter to fix problems.

If you are still experiencing issues, please try to:

  • Open Device Manager
  • Find the Graphics Drivers.
  • Right click on each driver listed.
  • Uninstall each driver.
  • Restart your Notebook twice.

Then, please update your Notebook with both Windows Updates and by using the HP Support Assistant. Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers that need updating.
