Hello, I have tried the various methods to fix this issue - adjusting the graphics using the Settings on the laptop. 'The graphics appear washed out and faded. For example the Chrome browser looks like it has a film over it. It looks washed out and faded.
Any other suggestions? I have even tried upating the graphics driver. Is the Geek Squad from Best Buy my only hope?
Btw, this is a new laptop. not refurbished.

Hi @lmj612,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you've already tried adjusting the graphics settings and updating the graphics driver without success, and considering this is a new laptop, here are some additional steps you could consider.
Check Color Calibration: Windows has a built-in tool for color calibration. You can search for "Calibrate display color" in the Windows search bar. This utility guides you through adjusting your color settings, including gamma, brightness, contrast, and color balance, which might help if your issue is related to improper calibration.
Inspect Power Settings: Sometimes, the power saving features can affect the display's appearance. Check your power settings to ensure they are not set to maximize battery life at the expense of display quality. You can adjust these settings in the Control Panel under Power Options.
Monitor Connection (if applicable): If you're using an external monitor, ensure the connection is secure and the cable is in good condition. Try a different cable or port if available.
HDR Settings: If your laptop supports HDR, and it's enabled, it can sometimes cause the display to look washed out when displaying content that is not HDR. You can toggle HDR settings in Windows under Settings > System > Display.
Check for Windows Updates: Sometimes, issues can be resolved with system updates. Ensure your laptop is fully updated by checking for Windows updates in the Settings app.
Reset Display Settings: In some cases, resetting your display settings to default can resolve display issues. You can do this within the graphics control panel software (e.g., NVIDIA Control Panel, AMD Radeon Settings).
Try a Different Profile or Mode: Some laptops come with different display profiles or modes tailored for specific uses like reading, multimedia, etc. Experiment with these to see if any offer an improvement.

Hi @lmj612,
I recommend you attempt to access the BIOS screen by tapping on F10 while the computer is restarting,
If the issue persists in the BIOS screen which is outside Windows, it would confirm a hardware failure and you will need to contact the phone support to replace or repair the LCD,
However, if it doesn't show up in the BIOS, it would confirm a software issue and we'll need to reinstall or update the display drivers using the Official HP Website: Click here.
Factory Reset:
- Consider performing a factory reset on your laptop. This will revert the system to its original state, and if the issue is software-related, it might be resolved. Please make sure to back up your important data before proceeding.
