I'm using a HP Pavilion 15-ec1446ng with the latest BIOS update installed and the latest NVidia Graphics drivers used (the ones from Microsoft, when using the HP-Drivers, the setup tells me it does not work on my operating system version).
Nevertheless the screen is always at full brightness, I can't change this, neither via Fn-keys nor via energy saver settings. More than this when I enable the night light settings, nothing changes.
I also tried with Ubuntu 16, the result is the same, no matter what I do or what I configure, the screen is always at maximum and way too bright.
Any idea how this can be fixed?
Thanks!

@Elmi79 Welcome to HP Community!
As I Understand the brightness adjustment doesn't work.
No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:
Have you attempted to enable the generic PnP monitor after the update was installed?
If you haven't, here's what you need to do:
1) Search for Device Manager in Start Menu
2) Expand the Monitors section
3) Right click on Generic PnP Monitor and
4) Click on Enable and you are good!
Keep us posted,

I understand your concerns.
Try updating the computer, this will install the latest updates -
Step 1 Windows Updates -
1) In the search box, type, and open Windows Updates.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.
Step 2 Install updates using HP Support Assistant
- In the search box, type, and open HP Support Assistant.
- Check for updates.
- If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.
Note: If you do not have HP Support Assistant installed, Click here to download the same.
Have a nice day!!

OK, none of these hints worked:
- the screen was detected by Windows properly
- BIOS and all other updates have been installed
- the graphics driver update that was provided by HP could not be installed, It failed with an error message about an invalid Windows version (I'm running the latest Windows 10 that is available)
- downloading the drivers from NVidia also did not solve the issue
Notebook was returned to seller meanhile, I'll check for an other vendor which provides working hardware 😞

I understand your concerns.
Please perform the system reset and check for the issue.
Windows 10 has a reset feature that repairs your computer by reinstalling the operating system. This feature is recommended for recovery because it reinstalls Windows 10 while either preserving your personal data and customizations or removing all your personal data.
You have a choice of two methods to reset your computer.
-
If Windows 10 loads correctly, see the section titled Perform a Windows 10 system reset in Windows in this document.
-
If Windows 10 does not start correctly, see the section titled Perform a Windows 10 system reset through Windows Recovery Environment in this document.
Have a nice day!!
