hp laptop

Just purchased this new laptop and the screen brightness is set all the way high, I checked advanced settings with the battery and power and this is as high as it goes but it's still pretty dim. Very straining on the eyes.

The brightness adjustment in Windows 10 can become degraded, the slider adjuster and hot keys can become moot, mute, or even disappear. Check the Windows help options under Display in Settings where you will find a collection of helpful videos, U tube that deal with brightness and the brightness slider that is missing . There are several informative, short videos on this problem that offer leads to downloads for a slider and/or updates to display adapters and/or monitors.. What will work best is to be determined by the structure of Windows 10 build and your graphics card... There are several  options, but this worked for me.. .First go to Device Manager, and update the drivers in the Display Adapters, using the update option to select drivers from your computer, or if you have not updated in a while, browse the internet and get up to date.  Pick the most recent. Then , and this is the crucial lead ,go to the Monitor and via Properties, update the driver to the generic PnP. This gives and/or restores the hot keys and the display slider. I had lost the display adjustment via a n "event" detailed in the Properties of the Monitor: it had "migrated" and other drivers had taken over. that eliminated the adjusters....Now I have the adjustment controls working again..
