I have a Hp envy x360 convertible 15-cn0xxx running windows 10 iot enterprise 21H2 and the screen flickers anytime I install the intel UHD 620 graphics driver.

First of all the issue isn't a hardware problem as the screen works fine, doesn't flicker when in safe mode, bios settings or when using the Microsoft basic adapter driver.

I have tried installing the latest intel uhd 620 drivers, the screen flickers, i tried installing old drivers  it still flickers.

I have updated my bios to the latest and the problem still persists. I installed the drivers through windows update,  the screen flickers,  through the intel graphics downloader, the screen still flickers and i have even used the hp support assistant and still the screen flickers.

I read somewhere I should be installing the drivers with wifi off, i have done all that and the screen still flickers when an intel uhd 620 driver is installed.

Right now the only way to use the laptop is when i uninstall the intel graphics driver and use the Microsoft basic adapter.  With that one too I can't project,  nor control the screen brightness, it's always bright.

Please could someone help, this is killing me.

Hi @ghost__98

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I hear you—this issue is frustrating, especially since you've tried multiple driver versions and troubleshooting steps. Since the flickering only happens when the Intel UHD 620 graphics driver is installed, it’s likely a driver compatibility issue rather than a hardware failure. Here are some additional steps to try:

1. Install an Older Intel UHD 620 Driver

  • Go to Device Manager (Win + X → Device Manager).
  • Expand Display Adapters → Right-click Intel UHD 620Update driver.
  • Select Browse my computer for driversLet me pick from a list.
  • Choose an older driver version and install it.

2. Disable Panel Self-Refresh

  • Open Intel Graphics Command Center (Win + S, search for it).
  • Go to DisplayPower.
  • Disable Panel Self-Refresh and restart your laptop.

3. Adjust Refresh Rate

  • Open SettingsSystemDisplayAdvanced display settings.
  • Try setting the refresh rate to 60Hz (or lower if available).

4. Disable Hardware Acceleration

  • Open SettingsSystemDisplayGraphics settings.
  • Toggle Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling off.

There's always a way forward! If you’d like me to refine solutions based on what you've already attempted, just let me know, and I’ll focus on new troubleshooting steps instead of repeating ones you've already tried. I'm here to help in the best way possible! 😊

Thanks for replying. Would try to install some old Intel UHD 620 drivers from 2018 to see if any wouldn't cause my screen to flicker. Thank you. Would provide an update if any works.

You're welcome @ghost__98

That sounds like a solid approach—older drivers sometimes handle display compatibility better than newer ones.

Looking forward to hearing how it goes!

Have a Nice Day!!

Hi,

I tried installing the old UHD 620 drivers and the screen still flickers😭. I installed the version 24.20.100.6195 and the screen still flickers. I try reducing the refresh rate from 60hz to the lowest available, that's 40hz, but this time the screen won't flicker but would turn black; unusable. When you switch to 60hz it would flicker and when you turn to the 40hz the screen turns black instead of flickering.

I couldn't find the display panel refresh option from the windows command center. I toggled off Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling, and it didn't make any difference.

Any other solutions I could try? This is killing me🥲.

I think this is some general issue with these hp x360 convertible laptops as these screen flickering issue is quite popular.

That sounds incredibly frustrating, especially since you've already tried multiple fixes. Here are some additional steps you can try:

Try a Different Intel UHD Graphics Driver Version

  • Some users have found success with Intel UHD Graphics driver version 31.0.101.2115.
  • You can download it from Intel’s official site here.

Disable Panel Self-Refresh in Intel Graphics Command Center

  • Open Intel Graphics Command Center.
  • Go to Display > Power Settings and disable Panel Self-Refresh.

Adjust Power Settings

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
  • Select High Performance and disable Adaptive Brightness under Advanced Settings.

If none of these steps work, HP support may need to assist further. Let me know how it goes! Hope this helps.
