HP Spectre 13-ae000 x360 Convertible PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I received this PC less than two weeks ago.

Had a bunch of issues with it not working properly (CPU and Disk working at 95% + and computer getting really hot after just opening a web browser or paint).

After updating BIOS and all windows updates, this got better but now another problem emerged.

My screen have been starting to flicker. I found this thread https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/Flickering-screen-issue-in-HP-spectre... and followed the advice to disabled the panel self refresh in the Intel Graphics settings but this did not help.

My problem is the same one as described in that thread.

Any suggestions on what to do?

Best regards Isak

Hi @IsakV

Welcome to HP Forums. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips

I understand that the screen keeps flickering.

I'd like to help.

May I know since when are you facing this issue?

I suggest you check in the BIOS whether the issue persists.

Shut down the Notebook > Upon restarting keep hitting the F10 key till you see System Configuration Screen ( BIOS ). Keep it under observation and let me know if the screen flickers.

If the screen doesn't flicker, please backup your Data and perform a System Recovery

- Turn off the computer.Disconnect all connected devices and cables such as Personal Media Drives, USB drives, printers, and faxes.
- Turn on the computer and repeatedly press the F11 key about once every second until the Choose an option screen is displayed, and then continue.
- On the Choose an Option screen, click Troubleshoot.
- On the Troubleshoot screen, click Recovery Manager.
- Under Help, click System Recovery.
- When Recovery Manager prompts you to back up your files, select a backup option:
- The Welcome to HP Recovery Manager screen is displayed. Read the on-screen information, and then disconnect any connected devices and cables, such as Personal Media Drives, USB drives, printers, and faxes.
- Remove media from internal drives, and remove any recently added internal hardware.
- Click Next to continue.
- When recovery preparation is complete, click Continue to proceed to the installation phase of the recovery process. The computer restarts several times during the recovery. This is normal. Do not close, shut down, or disconnect the computer while HP Recovery runs.
- Recovery Manager reformats the Windows partition and reinstalls the original software.
- After the system recovery is complete, click Finish to restart the computer. Complete the setup screens and wait until the computer finishes the setup.
- Once the setup is complete, turn off the computer, reconnect all devices and cables, and then turn on the computer.
- Before using the computer, update and protect your computer by reinstalling any virus and security software that was installed before the system recovery.
- Reinstall any software programs that were added after purchasing the computer, as well as any files that were backed up.

If the Screen flickers in the BIOS, please contact our phone support for Service Options.

Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/
Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone number and phone number appear.

Keep me posted.

Thank you. 🙂

Whether you are comforted or dismayed, the Surface Pro 4 has the same issues.  There's a 160 page thread that continues to grow with people experiencing this same issue on their SFP4, myself included:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/forum/surfpro4-surfdrivers/surface-pro-4-screen-flickeri...

No solutions.  Everyone wants to say it's driver problem, except external displays don't show the issue and you can see it in the UEFI / BIOS on restart once it gets bad, way before drivers and software are at play.  Moreover, having it serviced just gets you through your warranty until the replacement parts go bad, and reports suggest they consistently do.  I thought it was a Microsoft design flaw, so I thought I'd look into alternatives.  Apparently HPs equivalent device has the same problem, which probably means they're using the same design or the same faulty part.   Your only apparent alternative is Apple if you want a capable touch screen tablet, so I guess you'll have to give up on Office and/or OneNote (and dozens of other real applications).

Add your voice here if you think HP and Microsoft have had extremely lackluster responses to this issue:

To anyone who stumbles onto this, I had the same issue with my 13t x360.

Tried a bunch of stuff and nothing seemed to work until this:

Open Intel Graphics settings > Go to Power > Disable EVERYTHING. solved my issue! Actually i don't see a drop in battery life either....

I created an account just so I could say thanks! This worked!

And for anyone else out there: to open Intel Graphics settings, go to the desktop and right click on it > Intel Graphics Settings
