Screen goes off

While working, the screen goes black, but the laptop is still on. But when I use a second display, the laptop screen goes off and the second display stays on but I can't do anything on it as it stays like it is frozen. The laptop works normally after it is turned off by pressing the power and turned back on. it doesn't happen frequently.
