After the cat walked over the keyboard my screen turned in black and white. The log in screen is in color, but as soon as I log onto my account all color dissapears. After looking in the settings everything is still supposed to be in color, so I can't change it there. So, the notebook thinks it's in color, but in reality it's not. The problem doesn't seem to be in the hardware, because it's capable of showing color in the log in screen.

Hi! @Tvmanen, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!
I understand when you log into your PC the laptop screen looks black and white.
Don't worry I'll try to help you out.
Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?
Are you able to access BIOS or F2 system diagnostics on your PC?
Do you get errors on the screen?
Have you tried checking with an external monitor?
Please provide the product number of your PC to assist you better.
As you mentioned when you log into your PC the laptop screen looks black and white.
Try few steps recommended below.
To perform a power reset on a laptop with a sealed or non-removable battery, use the following steps:
Turn off the computer.
Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station.
Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices such as USB storage devices, external displays, and printers.
Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.
For most laptops, press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds to reset.
Plug the AC adapter back into the laptop computer, but do not connect any of the peripheral devices.
Press the Power button to turn on the computer.
If a startup menu opens, use the arrow keys to select Start Windows Normally, and then press the Enter key.
After Windows opens, reconnect each peripheral device that was disconnected, one device at a time, until all devices are reconnected.
Your laptop has been reset. After a power reset, it is a good idea to run Windows Update and HP Support Assistant to update all device drivers. See Updating Drivers and Software with Windows Update (Windows 10, 😎 and Using HP Support Assistant (Windows 10, 8, 7) for more information.
Also, if you are able to access BIOS try restoring the BIOS to default and check if it helps.
Turn on your PC keep tapping the F10 key, you will boot into BIOS.
From the main or file menu select restore defaults.
Select F10 to save changes and exit.
If the issue still persists after trying out the steps try updating the graphics driver and BIOS on your PC using HP support assistant and check if it helps.
Refer this article to know more information about using HP support assistant.
If you are able to access system diagnostics (F2) try running a system diagnostics test on your PC and check if the hardware components are working fine.

I suspect your cat hit Windows + Ctrl + C, thereby turning ON your Color Filter.
To correct: Settings > Personalization > Color > High contrast settings (under Related Settings) > set Apply color filter = OFF
Hope this helps, J.

Had this same problem for over one-day and was ready to return my laptop for service. THANK you for your solution. Afterwards I tried pressing Ctlr+C but could not recreate the problem. The fix you recommended though is what I needed. THANKS again!
