Hi there!

I have an issue with my laptop's screen.

Whenever I set it to 144Hz mode, the screen is blinking and horizontal, flashing lines appear at top and the bottom of the screen. This laptop's screen is supposed to work in 144Hz as per specification. It works only in 60Hz but it's somewhat unstable.

I have already replaced it once (post-warranty, at my own expense in local PC hardware fix shop) due to same issue, because eventually, even in 60Hz it gone completely dark. For a while, the new one worked fine, so it is not a connector issus, I suspect.

This is definitely no software issue. I tried roll-backing to factory drivers, installing different versions of drivers from AMD website and so forth. Nothing helps. I'm expecting the new one to fail soon, too.

Thing is, I don't really know if this screen is supposed to work in 60Hz mode at all. There's nothing about this mode being supported in HP's resources. It is however an option under Windows.

The issue is that if I use external 60Hz monitor, be it connected at boot or when laptop is already running, Windows sets the mode of built-in display to 60Hz too, for some reason. I wasn't aware of this until recently and suspect that running the screen at lower refresh rate than designated one does damage to it.

Of course, there can be multiple issues - like malfunctioning display controller, for example. Thing is, I use this laptop for work and I cannot just have it sit for a week or two at repair shop for them to look for an answer.

If anyone has experienced the sime issue, I would be thankful for sharing a root cause/solution.

Thanks!
