Hi @pgGHOST13,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're experiencing with your HP laptop screen turning white or gray with purple stripes, especially when touched around the edges or when opening the laptop, could be indicative of a few potential problems.

Loose or Damaged Display Cable:

  • Description: The display cable that connects the screen to the motherboard may be loose or damaged. Touching the edges may be causing a disruption in the connection.
  • Solution: You might need to open the laptop and reseat or replace the display cable. This should be done carefully or by a professional if you're not comfortable with laptop disassembly.

Screen Damage:

  • Description: The screen itself may have physical damage or defects, especially if it has been dropped or subjected to pressure.
  • Solution: If the screen is damaged, you will likely need to replace it.

Graphics Card or Driver Issues:

  • Description: Although less likely given the symptoms, problems with the graphics card or driver could also cause display issues.
  • Solution: Try updating your graphics drivers through the Device Manager or HP Support Assistant. You may also want to check for any available Windows updates.

Hardware Malfunction:

  • Description: There could be a malfunction within the display itself or another internal component.
  • Solution: Running HP’s built-in diagnostics (accessible at startup) can help identify hardware problems. If diagnostics show issues, the laptop may need service.

Environmental Factors:

  • Description: Sometimes, environmental factors like temperature or humidity can affect laptop screens.
  • Solution: Make sure your laptop is used in a suitable environment and not subjected to extreme temperatures.

Next Steps

  • Backup Data: If you're able to access your files, back them up to avoid data loss in case the problem worsens.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
