HP Spectre x360 - 13-aw0989nz
Microsoft Windows 11

I use my HP spectre as a second screen. Currently the display is black, when I do a Zoom meeting I see people shortly, then black again, it swooshes up and down. I have no idea what is wrong...

Hi @Antarktis,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Spectre's screen is turning black on and off intermittently, there are a few potential causes and troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Check power settings: Make sure your power settings are not set to turn off or dim the screen after a certain period of inactivity. Adjust the power settings in the control panel or settings menu.
  • Check display cables: Ensure that the display cables connecting your HP Spectre to an external monitor or docking station are securely plugged in. If you're using an external monitor, try connecting the laptop directly to it without using a docking station.
  • Update graphics drivers: Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers can cause display issues. Visit the official HP support website and download the latest graphics drivers for your specific Spectre model.
  • Adjust display settings: Right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings" (or "Screen resolution"). Check the display resolution and refresh rate settings to ensure they are set correctly for your monitor. Experiment with different settings to see if the issue persists.
  • Check for overheating: Overheating can cause the system to shut down or the screen to turn off. Ensure that the laptop's vents are clear of dust and debris. Consider using a laptop cooling pad to improve airflow.
  • Run hardware diagnostics: HP laptops often have built-in diagnostic tools. Restart your Spectre and press the appropriate key (e.g., F2 or ESC) to access the BIOS or diagnostic menu. Run a comprehensive hardware test to check for any hardware-related issues.
  • Perform a system restart: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve temporary software glitches. Shut down your laptop completely, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks, but it didn´t solve the problem.

Imagine the following - my HP Spectre is the second screen. When I move the cursor to the screen and move the cursor up, it is like a black curtain moving up. The moment I move the cursor to it, it goes wild, either the "curtain thing" or blinking, all black, whatsoever. The graphic drivers are up to date. Maybe that is a more precise problem description. Thanks for your help
