The power button change is actually one I just implemented. Thanks to your post and looking around it dawned on me that is ideal for myself- a quick way to put screen to sleep on battery or power. It sometimes annoys me for someone to walk up and start reading my screen. Much more elegant solution than closing the lid in their face.

Update for my Elitebook:
Setting the Power Button to "Turn off display" sort of works, but is a bit buggy. For example, if the screen is already off it seems to wake up and then turn off immediately when I press the button configured to this setting.
However, setting the Power Button to "Do nothing" solves my problem! It "does nothing" when the screen is already on, and turns the screen on if it is off.
If would be nice to be able to turn the screen off, as with your machine, but this is an improvement over the previous behaviour.
