After the laptop screen sleeps (or otherwise gets powered down without shutting down the computer), it never turns back on.
I can see the camera do a facial recognition and attempt to unlock the PC, but the screen stays unpowered unless I power cycle the computer.
No new software was installed. I updated all the drivers and BIOS. I attempted to change the power settings and hibernation of the computer based on similar threads. No improvements seem to help.
This issue is basically rendering the laptop almost impractical to use anymore. Are there any other things I could try or is this indicative of a hardware issue?

The graphics display is not waking up from sleep.
The latest graphics driver from the HP web site for your system is dated Sep 22, 2021 and is somewhat old unfortunately. Windows 11 came out in October and the HP is based on the pre-release.

If the above does not help then try the intel support assistant.
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/intel-driver-support-assistant.html
Occasionally the HP support assistant can find a newer version than is on the HP site

There are also power management updates that HPSA might find necessary to update.

This could be a problem with the hibernate file which is used by Windows Fast Start.
To get a new hiberfil do the following. Enter 'CMD' in the windows search and select 'run as administrator'.
Be sure to close other apps to avoid losing data during the hibernation.
powercfg -h off powercfg -h on shutdown /h |

Yea, I got that warning on a surface pro 4 several years ago. This was before intel created their own support assistant.
I looked up the intel cpu with it built in in graphics and then search for that graphics chipset at the intel site. I got that warning and sure enough there were problems. I had to uninstall and put in the original SP4 drivers. Their support assistant equivalent does a better job but you can always go back to a restore point to fix the problem.

I used this Keyboard shortcut as a temporary solution: Win + Ctrl + shift + B to wake up, it worked for me.
I had updated my system using the HP Support assistant but this didn't work.
Using the accepted solution suggested I then installed the Intel driver support assistant opened and selected Intel® Arc™ A & Iris® Xe Graphics Windows* update. Restarted and it worked ! 😀 My driver has now been updated to: Intel® Graphics Driver 31.0.101.5445
