Hi
HP Spectre Folio Convertible 13-ak0xxx
This laptop is using the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. When I attempt to upgrade the drive to the Intel 615 UHD driver, windows crashes after a few seconds with the blue screen "WHEA UNCORRECTIBLE ERROR".
I have done a clean re-install of Windows 10, applied all updates, but still get the same problem. The computer is only stable with the basic display adapter.
HP diagnostics doesn't flag any problems and if I attempt to install the Intel driver from HP support pages, I get the same problem.
Windows version is Windows 10 Home 64-bit Version: 19043.1288
I need the proper graphics driver so that I can use multiple displays with my HP G2 dock.
Unit is out of warranty, so I hope it's not a hardware issue!
Thanks for any help.

Hi:
It sounds to me like it is a hardware problem.
When a graphics driver causes the graphics adapter to crash, it is usually because the adapter can't handle the graphics demand placed on it, so it reverts to the path of least resistance...the basic display adapter. Might be due to the graphics chip becoming overheated.
There is only one other thing that I can think of to try...manually install the latest graphics driver from the Intel website.
First, create a system restore point so that you can roll back to the current graphics driver you have installed, just in case the updated driver does not work to your expectations.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4027538/windows-create-a-system-restore-point
Next, download and save the latest Intel HD graphics driver64 bit ZIP file from the link below.
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28991/Intel-Graphics-Windows-10-DCH-Drivers?v=t
Unzip the graphics driver file to its folder. Do not do anything with the files in the folder.
To unzip the file, right click on the graphics driver zip file you downloaded, and select Extract All.
Go to the device manager, click to expand the Display Adapters device manager category
Click on the Intel HD graphics adapter/Microsoft Basic Display Adapter listed there.
Click on the driver tab. Click on Update Driver.
Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and then at the bottom of that window, select the Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
Click on Have Disk, and browse to the unzipped graphics driver folder>Graphics>iigd_dch (setup information file), click Next, and the driver should install.
Be patient, as it can take a few minutes for the driver to completely install.
When the installation is finished, restart the PC.
To update the Intel HDMI audio driver to the latest version, go to the device manager, click to expand the Sound, video and game controllers device manager category.
Click on the Intel HD audio device listed there. Click on the driver tab. Click on Update driver.
Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the unzipped Intel graphics driver main folder.
Make sure the Include subfolders box is checked, and the driver will install.
Then restart the PC.
