Sudden drop in performance

Up until yesterday, my laptop ran perfectly, ran games in ultra graphics at 60+fps etc. I put the laptop to sleep and on waking it up again, found that those same games only ran at 1-5 fps and the laptop would freeze when on sites such as chrome. Have tried full reset of Windows 10, scanned for viruses, used a vacuum cleaner to try to get rid of dust in vents, updated drivers, fiddling around with intel XTU but nothing's changed. When running these games, CPU and memory are displaying as only being 50% used and GPU is more like 5%. Don't think any updates happened between putting it to sleep and waking it up yesterday.
