IMG_0310.JPGSometimes my HP Spectre increases the size of type to gargantuan! It starts by the HP "?" changing in size to about an inch in the task bar. Then, when I try to save a file, the screen type is so large that I cannot read anything on it.

As you can see in the image attached,  even the upper right corner click buttons are spreading apart about 3".

I have turned the computer off and rebooted, but it still happens. It turns on normally and then within a couple of minutes it stops normal functioning.

I have a 27" monitor and you can see what little is on the screen.

I can't help, but I want you to know I identify! I have a brand new HP ProBook that has been exhibiting the same behaviour. I attribute it to a software I downloaded because it didn't happen before. You wouldn't happen to  be using the Ancestry.com website and their  new "support" group McKiev?  That is where the bugs appear to be generating from on my PC, maybe I am wrong. I am here searching for answers on how to fix this thing. It seems to have damaged my bios and display files, but I am now expert to know which. So there you have it. Good luck with your problem, I hope I can find one for mine.

Hi @Virtualbubba

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I appreciate you taking the time to share your concern and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

I reviewed your post and I understand that the screen size increases automatically.

I’d love to help!

Follow below steps to resolve this issue.

Go to your Desktop, right-click your mouse and go to Display Settings.screen resolution settings

The following panel will open. Here you can adjust the size of text, apps, and other items and also change the orientation. To change the resolution settings, scroll down this window and click on Advanced Display Settings.

Change Screen Resolution Settings in Windows 10

1366 X 768 is the recommended screen resolution for my PC. It may be different for you.

However, you may want to modify if you want the items in your PC to appear larger. Please note that lower is the resolution, larger is the content displayed on your screen. From the available options in the drop-down menu, select the one you want and click Apply.

If it is not the optimal setting for your system, you will see an Optimal Resolution Notification like this.

You may ignore the notification and confirm your Screen Resolution changes by clicking on Keep The Changes. or you may select another screen resolution. You will get just 15 seconds to confirm the changes or else it will revert to the default display settings.

No, I have tried your suggestion and sadly, your solution doesn't work. I have a laptop, my default size is selected but for some reason as I am using the machine no matter where I am on or off the net, the "zooming" happens.  As I am typing this, the screen shakes a little and I expect a change at any moment. Thanks for the advice.

Hi @Virtualbubba

Thank you for posting back.

I appreciate your time and efforts.

Follow the below steps to decrease the font size and check if it helps.

Use the provided slider in display settings to "Change the size of text, apps, and other items," which ranges from the default 100% up to a much larger 175%.

I do not use Ancestry.com, however, my son has been using my computer once in a while. It was doing this before he ever used it, but is now doing it all the time.

Your advice doesn't change anything.

Hi @Virtualbubba

Thank you for posting back.

Follow the below steps on the screen where the icons and text are bigger.

Hold Ctrl and - (Minus key) until the size is as per your need.

That suggestion has no impact. In fact,  there are certain screens that come out so small they are illegible.
