All of a sudden today, my laptop had reverted back to the factory setting where the touchpad utilised the 'tap to click' functionality.
I went to change settings, as I had done before, to turn off the feature - however, now on the touchpad options, the full array of preferences I was able to change in the past were no longer visible.
Luckily, when I did rollback driver, back to v19.3.11.45, the options I remembered from before were back, and I was able to turn off tap to click.
It needs to made aware that the newer Synaptics Pointing Device driver, v19.3.31.31, does not give any option to alter options, so tap to click is stuck as 'on', and an incredibly frustrating experience will be had.
I don't want my driver to automatically update again, as this was really annoying.
I am wondering if others have had the same experience with this driver update? Hopefully HP / Synaptics can amend the v19.3.31.31 driver so that all options are intact.

Thank you for responding,
It's great to have you back 😉
That's weird it's not available on the synaptic website,
however, I'm glad my suggestion has helped you.

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂
I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.
As I understand the synaptics update is causing an issue with the touchpad,
No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:
What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824
(Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).
Have you attempted to install the latest synaptics driver from synaptics instead of HP to check if that works?
(Click here to access the synaptics website)
Did you try to disable the automatic update for your drivers?
If not, here's what you need to do:
a. Type “System Settings” in the search next to start.
b. Select View advanced system settings.
c. Click on Hardware Tab in system properties.
d. Click on Device installation settings.
e. Select No, Let Me choose what to do.
f. Select Never install driver software from Windows Update.
G. Click on Save changes.
Keep me posted,
If I have answered your queries, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below,
Followed by clicking on "Accept as solution" button for my efforts to help you.
Have a great day!

Thank you for your reply.
My laptop is HP Notebook 17-P000NA.
The Synaptics own site driver is even older than the one I have rolled back to - as my touchpad is working properly again, I am fearful of changing it!
Thanks for the suggestion about turning off the automatic update, this makes me feel more confident. I just want it to stay as it is!
