HP EliteBook x360 1040 G5 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 11

In Device Manager, under Human Interface Devices, I followed the instructions to uninstall, reboot, and reinstall the Touchscreen Driver. However, when I clicked to uninstall the driver, I noticed an option to "Remove the Driver/Files". Without realizing the full impact, I clicked it, effectively removing the driver from Windows.

Now, I need to download and reinstall the HID Touchscreen driver along with its associated files to restore functionality.

Hi mialovessarcasmo

If you have unintentionally removed the HID Touchscreen driver along with its associated files, you can reinstall it by following these steps:

  1. Download the Touchscreen Driver from HP Customer Support:

    • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads.
    • Enter your product name "HP EliteBook x360 1040 G5 Notebook PC" in the search box.
    • Select the correct operating system (e.g., Windows 11) if prompted.
    • Browse for the touchscreen driver under the "Driver - Keyboard, Mouse, and Input Devices" section.
    • Download the HID Touchscreen driver.
  2. Install the Driver:

    • Locate the downloaded driver file on your computer and double-click it to start the installation.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process.
    • Once the installation is complete, restart your computer.

Alternative Method: Using Device Manager

If you are unable to find the specific driver on the HP website, you can also use Device Manager to search for the driver automatically:

  1. Open Device Manager:

    • Press  and choose "Device Manager," or search for "Device Manager" in the Windows search box and open it.Win + X
  2. Scan for Hardware Changes:

    • In Device Manager, click "Action" at the top and select "Scan for hardware changes." This can sometimes re-detect the hardware and install default drivers.
  3. Reinstall the Driver:

    • Find "Human Interface Devices" in the list.
    • Look for any entry related to the touchscreen. If there is an entry named "HID-compliant touch screen" or similar, right-click it, and choose "Update driver."
    • Select "Search automatically for updated driver software."
    • Windows will search for the driver and install it if available.

Using Windows Update

Sometimes, drivers can also be restored through Windows Update:

  1. Run Windows Update:
    • Go to .Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update
    • Click "Check for updates."
    • If Windows Update suggests any driver updates, allow them to download and install.

For further detailed guidance, please refer to the HP support document on updating drivers using Windows Update: HP PCs - Updating drivers using Windows Update (Windows 11, 10).

Following these steps should help you restore and reinstall the HID Touchscreen driver on your HP EliteBook x360 1040 G5 Notebook PC.

I hope the above is helpful
