Hi @Lufi1,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing screen tearing issues during 3D games can be frustrating, but it's often related to mismatches between the game's frame rate and your display's refresh rate.

Here are steps you can take to resolve the tearing issue on your Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop:

1. Enable V-Sync (Vertical Sync) in Game Settings

  • What it does: V-Sync synchronizes the frame rate of your game with your monitor's refresh rate to prevent tearing.
  • How to enable:
    • Open the game you're experiencing tearing in.
    • Go to Graphics Settings or Video Settings.
    • Look for V-Sync or Vertical Sync and turn it on.
    • Apply and test the game.

2. Use NVIDIA G-Sync (if supported)

  • If your Victus laptop has an NVIDIA GPU and supports G-Sync, it can dynamically adjust the display's refresh rate to match the GPU's output.
  • How to enable:
    • Right-click on the desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel.
    • In the left panel, click on Set up G-Sync.
    • Enable G-Sync for your display if it's available.
    • Apply and test the game.

3. Cap the Frame Rate

  • Sometimes, capping the frame rate can help reduce screen tearing.
  • How to do it:
    • In the game settings, find Frame Rate or Max FPS.
    • Set the frame rate to match your display's refresh rate (e.g., 60 FPS for a 60Hz display).

4. Update Graphics Drivers

  • Outdated drivers can cause performance issues, including screen tearing.
  • Steps:
    • Open Device Manager.
    • Expand the Display adapters section.
    • Right-click your GPU (e.g., NVIDIA GeForce) and choose Update driver.
    • Alternatively, go to the NVIDIA website and download the latest driver manually.

5. Adjust Graphics Settings in the Game

  • Lowering graphics settings can reduce the load on your GPU and prevent tearing.
  • Steps:
    • In the game's settings, reduce options like Texture Quality, Anti-Aliasing, and Shadow Quality.
    • Test if reducing these settings improves the performance and eliminates tearing.

6. Check Display Refresh Rate

  • Ensure your display is set to the correct refresh rate.
  • Steps:
    • Right-click on the desktop and select Display Settings.
    • Scroll down and click Advanced display settings.
    • Check if your display is set to the correct refresh rate (e.g., 60Hz, 120Hz, or higher, depending on your model).
    • If it’s not, change it and apply.

7. Use Borderless Windowed Mode

  • Some users report that running games in Borderless Windowed Mode can help reduce screen tearing.
  • You can try switching the game from Full Screen to Borderless Windowed in the graphics settings.

8. Update BIOS and Firmware

  • Sometimes, updating the BIOS or system firmware can solve hardware-related issues.
  • Visit the HP Support website to check for any updates specific to your Victus model.
