I recently purchased a new laptop, which seems to work well, but when I attach it to my HP docking station only the mouse and keyboard work. I get a message advising that the port cannot properly display video and the machine doesn't charge. I know the docking station works because I use it with other HP laptops.

What is your HP Laptop PC 15s-fq2000 (2D120AV) ? It could be one of the following over 150 machines

For example: HP Laptop 15s-fq2008nv
It ONLY has 1 hopeless SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 5Gbps signaling rate port which does NOT support Alt mode nor Power Delivery. You can NOT use it to
- Charge your machine,
- Connect to an external monitor with/without hub/dock/adapter (some hubs may have builtin chip to support this)
If you wish to connect 2 external monitors (only-total 3), you can use
- Monitor 1: HDMI direct cable,
- Monitor 2: Using a Displaylink Certified USB-A to HDMI adapter such as

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated. My machine is a 15-dy2089ms, which seems to have the USB-C type you have mentioned that won't allow for charging or display. If I look at the USB-C listed in the device manager, it is an Intel(R) USB 3.10 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.20 (Microsoft).
You mention that some docking stations (hubs) may have a chip to address this. Do you know which ones?
