The birghtness keys (F2 and F3) don't work on my HP envy laptop at all. It's gotten so dim seemingly all of the sudden that I am having trouble doing my homework, and I've been doing schoolwork all weekend. This is a brand new machine.

Hi @jamelew,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
If the brightness keys (F2 and F3) on your HP Envy x360 laptop aren't working, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue:
Check Function Key Lock:
- Make sure that the Function (Fn) key is not locked. Sometimes, pressing Fn + Esc can toggle the function key behavior, allowing the F1-F12 keys to function as standard function keys rather than multimedia keys.
Adjust Brightness via Settings:
- Go to Settings > System > Display. Use the slider under Brightness and color to adjust the brightness manually.
Update Display Drivers:
- Outdated or corrupted display drivers can cause issues with brightness controls.
- Right-click on the Start button, select Device Manager, and expand the Display adapters section. Right-click your display driver and select Update driver. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
Reinstall Display Drivers:
- If updating doesn’t work, you can try reinstalling the display driver:
- In Device Manager, right-click on the display driver and select Uninstall device. Restart your laptop, and Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
Update Windows:
- Ensure that your Windows is up to date. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and check for updates.
Check for HP Support Assistant Updates:
- Open the HP Support Assistant application, and check for any available updates or recommended actions.
Run HP Hardware Diagnostics:
- You can run hardware diagnostics to check for any issues with the keyboard or display. Restart your laptop and repeatedly press the Esc key until the Startup Menu opens. Press F2 for System Diagnostics and run a test.
Perform a Power Reset:
- Shut down your laptop, disconnect the power adapter, and remove the battery (if possible). Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds. Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then turn on your laptop.
If the brightness keys are still not functioning after trying these steps, I recommend you contact phone support.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
