Hello, my laptop screen becomes significantly blurry after running games for a few minutes, with a visual effect similar to a drastic drop in resolution. The device model is Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 16, and the games I play include 3A titles and online games. I have tried adjusting resolution and updating drivers] but the issue persists. I would like to inquire about the cause of this problem and solutions. Thank you for your assistance!

Hi @bwlszr,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Victus 16 Gaming Laptop screen becomes blurry after running games for a few minutes, even though resolution and drivers are updated. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check in-game resolution and display settings

Make sure the game is running at your native screen resolution.

Some games auto-switch to lower resolution for performance, causing the blurry effect.

Update GPU drivers

Ensure both NVIDIA/AMD drivers and Intel integrated GPU drivers are the latest.

Use the official NVIDIA/HP website instead of automatic Windows updates for gaming laptops.

Disable dynamic resolution or optimization features

Some games or NVIDIA/Intel settings use Dynamic Resolution Scaling to maintain FPS.

Turn this off in the game or in NVIDIA Control Panel → Manage 3D Settings → Texture Filtering.

Check display scaling in Windows

Go to Settings → System → Display → Scale and layout.

Set scaling to 100% (Recommended) to prevent Windows from resizing the screen during high GPU load.

Monitor refresh rate

Go to Display Settings → Advanced display settings and confirm the refresh rate matches your laptop panel.

Some games force a lower refresh rate temporarily, affecting clarity.

Check for overheating or thermal throttling

High GPU/CPU temperatures can trigger temporary performance reduction, which sometimes reduces rendering resolution.

Use HP Command Center or monitoring tools to check temperatures while gaming.

Run a full Windows and BIOS update

BIOS or chipset updates can fix GPU handoff or scaling issues during intensive workloads.

Test with an external monitor

Connect a monitor to the HDMI/USB-C port while gaming.

If the blur does not appear externally, the laptop panel or internal GPU display path may be involved.

I hope this helps.

just like this. how to solvejust like this. how to solveYou may have misunderstood. The screen has become blurred like in this picture.

Numerous troubleshooting steps have been attempted, including driver updates, dust removal, and thermal paste replacement. While the temperature remains within the normal range, the problem remains unresolved.

Hi @bwlszr,

Thanks for the clarification and the image you shared!
Since you’ve already tried driver updates, dust cleaning, and repasting (and the temperature is normal), the issue is most likely related to display output processing rather than temperature or game settings.
Here’s how we can proceed now:

Based on the blurry, pixelated effect after a few minutes (as seen in the picture), the most likely causes are:

1. GPU VRAM (Video Memory) Fault

When VRAM becomes unstable, the system lowers render resolution or corrupts image output mid-game. This does not always show up as overheating.

2. Scaling/Panel Interface Issue

If only the internal laptop display becomes blurry, and an external monitor appears fine, the screen connector or internal scaler chip could be failing.

3. GPU Power Throttling (Not Only Temps!)

Even if temperatures are fine, power delivery issues can throttle GPU performance, reducing resolution dynamically.

Test with an external monitor

Connect via HDMI or USB-C and play your game until the blur appears.

If blurry only on laptop screen → Panel/cable issue

If blurry on both screens → GPU/VRAM issue

Check for dynamic resolution

Disable it globally:

NVIDIA Control Panel → Manage 3D Settings

Turn DSR – OFF

Set Texture Filtering – High Quality

Turn Image Sharpening – OFF

Disable Virtual Super Resolution (AMD) if applicable.

Run a GPU Stress + VRAM Test

Use FurMark or OCCT GPU VRAM test for 5–10 min.
If artifacts/blurriness appear → VRAM hardware issue confirmed

I hope this helps.
