Hi @Niveda

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Your HP laptop is likely dimming automatically due to adaptive brightness, content-based brightness control, or presence sensing features in Windows 11. These can be disabled to maintain consistent screen brightness.

Step-by-Step: Stop Automatic Screen Dimming in Windows 11

1. Turn Off Adaptive Brightness

  • Go to Settings > System > Display.
  • Under Brightness & color, turn off:
    • “Change brightness automatically when lighting changes”
    • “Help improve battery by optimizing content shown and brightness”

These features adjust brightness based on ambient light and screen content.

2. Disable Presence Sensing (If Available)

  • Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Presence sensing.
  • Turn off:
    • “Dim my screen when I look away”

Some HP models include sensors that dim the screen when you’re not actively looking at it.

3. Check Power Settings

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & battery > Screen and sleep.
  • Set “Dim the display” options to Never or adjust to your preference.

This ensures brightness doesn’t drop due to idle timeout settings.

4. Update Graphics Driver

  • Press Windows + X > select Device Manager.
  • Expand Display adapters.
  • Right-click your graphics card > select Update driver > Search automatically.

Outdated drivers can mismanage brightness controls.

5. Use HP Display Control (If Installed)

  • Open the HP App or HP Display Control utility.
  • Look for any brightness automation or ambient light settings and disable them.

Some HP utilities override Windows settings with their own brightness logic.

6. Restart and Observe

  • Restart your laptop after applying changes.
  • Use your device for a few minutes and monitor brightness behavior.

If the screen remains stable, the issue is resolved.

Let me know how your screen responds after these adjustments. If needed, I can guide you through checking BIOS-level brightness settings or using HP diagnostics to confirm sensor behavior.

You're doing everything right—this sequence should help restore consistent brightness.
