HP ENVY 13-ay1000 x360 Convertible PC (3T488AV)

The protective film was peeling and out of impulse I peeled the entire thing off leaving scratches all over. They are only surface scratches, I can't even feel it on my fingertips. It doesn't affect it's functionality. However I'd like to know of a way to get rid of the scratches before putting on another film. Would plastic/glass polish work? If so which kind? Toothpaste made it worse, now there are swirls on it too.

@OviniVihara, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding touchpad issue!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your HP Envy touchpad has surface scratches, and you've already tried toothpaste with unsatisfactory results, there are other methods you can try to improve its appearance before applying a new protective film.

Methods to Consider:

Plastic Polish:

  • Product Recommendation: Use a plastic polish that is specifically designed for electronics or delicate surfaces. A popular choice is Novus Plastic Polish. This polish comes in different levels for removing scratches and restoring clarity.
  • Application Steps:
    1. Clean the touchpad thoroughly to remove any dust or debris.
    2. Apply the polish sparingly to the scratched area using a soft, clean cloth.
    3. Buff in circular motions gently until the scratches are diminished.
    4. Wipe off any excess polish with a clean cloth.

Glass Polish:

  • Product Recommendation: For glass polishes, products like Zentech Glass Polish or Cerium Oxide-Based Polish can be considered if the touchpad surface is glass-like.
  • Application Steps:
    1. Ensure touchpad is clean and free of dust.
    2. Apply a small amount of glass polish to the scratched area.
    3. Gently buff the area using a microfiber cloth in circular motions.
    4. Clear any residue with a clean cloth.

Screen Repair Kits:

  • Product Recommendation: Screen repair kits like Displex or Polywatch can be effective. These kits are typically used for phone screens but can also work on touchpads.
  • Application Steps:
    1. Clean the touchpad thoroughly.
    2. Follow the specific instructions provided by the repair kit manufacturer.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
