There are 3 purple lines going across my screen (horizontal way) I don't know how they got there because I keep my laptop in its bag all the time.

Hi @Archie2743
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
That must be so disappointing—especially when you’ve taken good care of your laptop and this just pops up out of nowhere.
Let’s work through a few steps to help figure out what’s causing those purple horizontal lines and hopefully get your screen back to normal.
🧪 First, Let’s Rule Out Software Issues
1. Update Your Graphics Driver
- Right-click the Start button → Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters, right-click your graphics driver, and choose Update driver.
- Restart your laptop after updating.
2. Check for Windows Updates
- Go to Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates.
- Install any pending updates and restart.
3. Adjust Refresh Rate
- Right-click the desktop → Display settings → Advanced display settings.
- Try changing the refresh rate to a different value (e.g., 60Hz or 120Hz).
4. Test with an External Monitor
- Connect your laptop to an external display.
- If the lines don’t appear on the external screen, the issue is likely with your laptop’s display hardware.
🔧 If It’s Hardware-Related
5. Check for Loose Display Connections
- Gently adjust the screen angle and see if the lines flicker or change.
- If they do, it might be a loose internal cable or connector.
6. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
- Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly during startup.
- Select F2 to open diagnostics.
- Run the Display Test to check for hardware faults.
7. Inspect for Physical Damage
Even if it’s always stored safely, internal components can shift or degrade over time. Look closely for:
- Pressure marks or discoloration.
- Cracks near the hinge or edges.
If the lines persist after all this, it could be a failing LCD panel or internal cable issue. Let me know how far you get with these steps, and I’ll help you explore repair options or warranty support if needed. You’re doing everything right—let’s get that screen looking sharp again! 💪💻
