Tilt Pen
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have been using the Hp Tilt Pen included in the box of my HP Spectre x360 for a couple of weeks and it has been working perfectly, both the stylus and the eraser. I have always used the eraser function by flipping the pen and touching the screen with the button on top of the pen itself. Now the eraser button doesn't work properly anymore, and what I mean is:

-Flipping the pen and hovering the screen shows the eraser pointer, but once I touch the screen no effect is produced and nothing gets erased.

-The shortcuts set for the eraser button works normally. Clicking or double-clicking it activates all the shortcuts. The shortcuts, though, require a harder pressing of the eraser button, while the erasing method needs the pen to just touch the screen.

-This problem persists in every application used, in my case: OneNote App, OneNote 2016, Photoshop, ShetckBook and the Windows Ink Area.

I fully recharged the pen via the type-C connector and the problem persists. I even tried to unpair-repair it with no results. I wonder if it's a hardware issue that needs the pen to be replaced or a software issue that can be fixed easily. On the web I can't even find drivers for the product, so I'm stuck selecting the erase icon and erasing with the stylus.

Let me know if you can help me out

Updating the Tilt Pen driver MIGHT help.

Read the Advisory about the Bluetooth disconnect -- if applicable to your computer model, consider installing the patch included in the document.

                                        ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Before Updating drivers, consider creating a Restore Point:

Stop all programs:  Browsers, games, Applications, etc.

Control Panel > icon view > System > System Protection

Click (Highlight) your main disk (C) > Select Create a Restore Point

I tried installing the new driver, but the issue remains. I noticed that is some cases the erasing works, but not under any reproducible circumstances. There are cases in which, after keeping the erase pressed on the screen trying to delete what I wrote, something gets erased. Looks like a pretty random event, in which the eraser works just for a couple of seconds. I'm now concerned this is a hardware problem...

Thanks for the advice anyway. Do you have other suggestions?

Well, installing the driver to fix it was a long shot.  The Bluetooth driver might have had a better chance if it were applicable to your computer model.

If you are still using the original batteries that came in the pen, it might be useful to install some fresh, new batteries.   Batteries in mine are the 4A (AAAA) type -- not expensive at all.  Be sure to purchase high-grade batteries from a major USA manufacturer.

If you have not done so, you might try cleaning the screen thoroughly.  I suspect this is another "Goose Chase" although it is possible the eraser is sensing some kind of "film" on the screen that sometimes interferes with the connection.

I suspect I am missing something.

I cannot rule out hardware, of course.  I don't have any personal experience with a pen failing in this way; my comments would be based on speculation (and useless to you in context).

The Bluetooth connection isn't likely to be the problem: in the Windows 10 settings the Pen is shown as paired and connected. Anyway, I installed the SoftPaq about the Bluetooth disconnect, but the situation hasn't changed. Also, I don't think it's about the battery: this model charges via a type-C connector (not an AAAA battery), but even at full charge the issue persists.

Because the shortcuts associated with the erase button works (single click opens, double-click opens), I suspect the issue concerns the middle level of pressure of the eraser button. The button can either be unclicked, halfway-clicked (that's the level of pressure required to activate the eraser), or fully-clicked (to activate the shortcuts, which won't activate if you half-press the button).

I bought this PC (Tilt Pen included) a couple of weeks ago, and I can't remember my pen falling from a table or even a reasonable height for it to get this kind of damage. On this forum there are some people with the same issue, but none of those discussions seemed to find a solution.

You are not alone - and it is not a harware issue with your HP Tilt Pen: I have the same issue with mine, it suddenly poped a few weeks ago... 😞
