Hi @jimmym0810,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you've installed a new genuine HP toner cartridge, but you're still getting a "Toner Low" message on your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148fdw printer, you can try the following steps to resolve the issue.

Restart the Printer: Sometimes, a simple power cycle can resolve such issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in and power it on.

Check for Protective Tape or Seal: Ensure that you've removed any protective tape or seal from the new toner cartridge. Sometimes, these seals can block the toner from being distributed properly.

Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Turn off the printer and open the toner cartridge door. Carefully remove the toner cartridge and inspect the contacts on both the cartridge and inside the printer. If you see any toner buildup or debris, clean it gently with a lint-free cloth or a cotton swab.

Reset the Printer: Some HP printers have a reset function that can be used to clear error messages. To perform a reset, follow these steps:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Wait for at least 30 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord.
  • Turn on the printer and check if the error message is cleared.

Update Firmware: Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer on the HP support website. Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve cartridge-related issues.

Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that the toner cartridge you installed is compatible with your specific printer model. Using an incompatible cartridge can cause errors.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Alden4

Thanks for your help. I am using genuine HP cartridge. Did all the steps you recommended. Still get same error message Toner Low.  But also getting another message "Imaging drum is very low". Could this be the reason for the low toner error message?

Thanks Alden

I have carried out the steps you suggested, still getting low toner/cartridge very low  warning.  But am also getting another error message "imaging drum is very low".  Could this be causing the low toner error message?
